About the Internship

  • Duration - 8 Weeks
  • Location - Pune
  • Industry - Hospitality
  • Role - Finance Intern

How was your overall experience?

My 8 weeks of summer internship with OYO were full of ups and downs. I had to toil hard daily from 10:00 AM to 6: 30 PM, but as such fixed routine was not there, we had to meet the owners of the hotel and also there were meetings with our managers which used to happen after 8 PM once or twice in a week.

The work that was initially given to us was basically based on data analysis and finding out properties which were performing against the trend. This was done cluster wise. After the data analysis, we had to determine the reasons why these properties were underperforming. After the reasons that were identified, we had to visit the properties and meet the owners to determine the owner's viewpoint also and resolve his concerns. We also had to renegotiate the deals so that take rate from that property could be increased.

How was the selection process conducted?

I had to go through an HR interview which revolved around the business expansion of OYO.

What was your project and how did you execute it?

The project given to us was Transformation and cost optimisation of OYO invested franchise deals.

Execution Steps:-
1. Getting to know the market of how the deals are done, how onboarding of properties is done, how money is spent on these properties etc.

2. Learning about the reconciliation process of Hotels. Learning about manual reconciliation sheet. How they are matched and how if some discrepancy is there then how those disputes or discrepancies are handled and resolved.
3. Data Analysis of last 1-year data for the Pune Hub and Identifying the properties with Low take Rate. Also doing the trend analysis cluster wise and property wise to know how that property is behaving with respect to other properties in that cluster.

4. Data Analysis of above-identified properties to know effective take rate vs the take rate which is mentioned in the deal. Thus, digging deeper and doing a detailed analysis of these properties.

5. After the individual property was identified meetings were scheduled with the owners for take rate renegotiation.

How was the work culture at OYO?
